Backlinking in the Era of Critters

Every so often, Google critters - Panda, Penguin, and others - escape from the zoo and obliterate websites that were formed using rules Google itself promulgated.  Backlinking is a situation in point.

In the post panda and penguin world, the rules have changed, but the challenge to build backlinks stays. They need to be varied, targeted, with a wide selection of anchor texts, a mix of no follow and do follow links.

Everything in this process starts with writing an original article.

You do not want to link directly to your industry site because you’re creating hundreds of backlinks at a time.  If you point all of them to your niche blog, it will seem totally unnatural and your site won’t be able to handle it without raising a red flag. When you direct these links to your anchors, because your anchor sites have a high ranking, they’ll be able to handle the influx of links but at the same time pass SEO strength generated from all of those links to your niche site.

Bottom Line:  If you rely on Google natural search for your company success, you might be taken down at any time due to no mistake of your own.

Fundamentals of a First-rate Backlinking Plan:

1. Target your backlinks to your home page and at least 3 inside web site pages.  A number of backlinks to include are exact match, URL, brand, and random keyword phrases.

2. Studies have revealed that we want to employ a wide array of anchor texts.  As few as a 0-15% exact match will do.

3. Bare links like http://lpcmarketing.com used to be frowned upon.  Not so these days.  You may have from 25% to 75% of your links as raw URLs.

4. Few but better backlinks from a diverse quantity of sites is vital.  Backlinking relevancy has been revealed to play an critical role.

5. Paying attention to your backlinking variety will help you win the traffic your website needs and desires.  To realize backlinking diversity you want to get links from PDF sharing sources, web 2.0 properties, blogs, article directories, RSS sites, blogrolls, videos, social network sites, and press releases.

6. Some say the whole no follow thing is merely another part of Google’s ongoing disinformation campaign to baffle and frustrate those of us with an economic interest in manipulating the search engines to drive traffic to our sites.  What you need is a blend to keep the SEO gods happy.

7. Links from the same IP address are a red flag.  Of course, you will market your site, but all links from your home computer means no authority and no ranking.  Thousands of search engines, social media, and forum sites exist with unique IPs.  Use them.

The text of the hyperlinks that point back to your website should only be your main keyword about 20-25% of the time. Vary your anchor text using secondary long-tail keywords in the same niche.
